On October 31, 2018, Burbank lost a bright shining star. Evie Swierczynski lost her battle against leukemia after five months of treatment at CHLA, she was just 15 years old. While she was a patient at Children’s Hospital LA, she was given a new book every day from Literally Healing. Those daily visits from the volunteers and the offer to choose a book made her very happy, even on her darker days. Evie was an avid reader. She loved books, and from the time she was a little girl going to a bookstore was one of her favorite things to do. She always had a massive "to be read" pile and tended to read more than one book at a time.
Keeping Evie’s memory alive is very important to The Swierczynski family, this book drive is just one way for them to do that. It’s also an important way for them to support CHLA’s Literally Healing. The Literally Healing program gives over 70,000 books to children and caregivers every year and they are in constant need of more books. So, please consider supporting this book drive by donating one NEW book. You can shop, in person, at Dark Delicacies or you can shop in your favorite local shop and drop your books off at Dark Delicacies.
